JUNIOR-LEVEL STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - RISK AND INSURANCE PRACTICE 

The Opportunity

MMI’s Oakland, California office has an immediate employment opportunity for a junior-level structural engineer.  This position will support MMI’s Risk and Insurance practice, which engages in performing site-specific as well as portfolio risk analysis of a range of infrastructure subject to a variety of man-made and natural catastrophes.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities associated with is position include executing technical work on projects within the practice.  Examples of projects could include:  seismic risk assessment of a portfolio of buildings utilizing site-specific data, development and application of a tsunami risk assessment for a multi-billion dollar facility.[

The selected candidate will perform assignments under the supervision of senior engineers and project managers and will help lead specific tasks as necessary.  Tasks will be designed to develop knowledge, skills and abilities in these technical disciplines and the business of professional consulting services.  In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to engage in continual learning and marketing campaigns for the Risk and Insurance practice area, via publishing or review of technical work, visibility at prominent industry conferences, and cross-selling within MMI.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have an MS, ME or Ph.D in civil/structural engineering, with a strong emphasis on probabilistic analysis.  Additionally the selected candidate must demonstrate competency in programming in at least one of these: FORTRAN, C (C++), or Python and have a strong background in probability and statistics.  Preferred candidates will demonstrate advanced programming abilities in FORTRAN 90 or later, or C (or variants of C); proficiency in GIS tools (such as ArcGIS, or GRASS GIS), Matlab, R, Excel VBA, and well-known structural analysis programs in the industry.  Some industry or applied experience in risk analysis, and probabilistic analysis work also is highly preferred.
