Civil aircraft design is highly influence by flight operators’ requirements - analysis is an essential tool

For example a civil flight operator wants to ‘turn around’ the aircraft in the shortest possible time after landing.  Therefore the refuel system must be designed to achieve this.  Analysis can ensure that the optimum design configuration is selected at the aircraft concept design stage and still meets the requirements as the design develops and reaches full in-service maturity.

Other systems, such as refuel, engine/APU feed, transfer, vent, inerting, bleed air and anti-icing can be optimized at concept design stage using network or CFD analysis techniques.  Further analysis can be conducted through the remainder of the design cycle; detailed design, ground test, flight test and certification, and continuous product development when in service.  This will ensure that the aircraft performance and safety can be ensured as the design evolves, as a result of the interactions from the many different disciplines involved in aircraft design (structures, aerodynamics, propulsion systems, landing gear, etc.).

In the unfortunate event of an in-flight incident or crash landing analysis can be used to investigate possible causes and confirm any design changes that may arise.
