Our Applied Science Practice (AS) has specialised expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessment, computational simulation methods, data science and machine learning. We develop state of the art scientific and engineering methods and apply them to real world problems.
We are looking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic Engineer with a strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The current opening is in the UK-based Thermofluids team.
Background / Experience
Successful candidates will have a degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences, and knowledge in the use of commercial CFD tools e.g. Ansys CFX/Fluent. Experience of office software tools and operating systems e.g C, Java, FORTRAN, Matlab or other scripting tools are essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The Engineer will support Thornton Tomasetti clients across a range of industry sectors including Water, Nuclear, Power, Oil and Gas, Renewables, Energy Storage, Life Science, Hydrogen, Automotive and other industries. While the primary focus for this position is CFD, adaptability and openness to learning new skills is critical to a success in a dynamically expanding consulting engineering firm supporting multiple industry sectors. Thus, the successful candidate will be expected continuously to expand their engineering knowledge and apply general principles of engineering mechanics to solve some of the most challenging problems of today and tomorrow.
In addition to engineering problem-solving, the responsibilities will include: assuming technical and business ownership of the project deliverables; managing relationships with the clients; business development and proposal preparation; supervision of staff (based on experience).
Successful candidates will possess a degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences and demonstrate excellent understanding of the fundamental principles of physics and problem solving. An advanced degree (MEng, MSc or PhD) with a focus on numerical modelling and fluid mechanics is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates will possess good knowledge of commercial CFD tools, such as ANSYS CFX and/or Fluent. Experience with office software tools and operating systems (Linux and WinXP) and programming skills such as FORTRAN, C, Matlab, VBA, Perl, Python and/or other scripting tools are required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Prior industrial experience in a consulting role, including management of the client relationships, is preferred
