Wind Energy Potential (WEP-View)
WEP-View is a cost-effective, user-friendly yet powerful energy assessment tool for wind farms incorporating the very latest thinking in probabilistic modelling.
WEP View takes in flexible data input based on the information the user has of the site, and performs complex analysis determining the wake effects seen within the farm at each step in the analysis before outputting the energy and revenue generation. The software has been validated by comparing the predicted energy with the actual energy generated by an offshore wind farm.
The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) licenses WEP-View from MMI Engineering, with the intent to use the tool to assess value of offshore leases for wind farm development.
Intuitive to Use
The User Interface leverages the Microsoft Excel® platform so there is virtually no upfront training to use the tool; the user does not need to be a wind energy expert.
Flexible Data Input
Four different types of wind speed information are accepted including time histories, wind distributions and wind roses. Based on the information the user has available, output information about their farm can be found very quickly.
Efficient and Accurate Analysis Engine
An analysis run with a 70 turbine wind farm and a wind probability distribution input typically takes less than one minute to run. And the same farm with large input data files, for example, one year of ten minute wind time history data, can run in as little as 11 minutes. This allows for many iterations on the design of the wind farm to be done in a short amount of time.
The output includes statistics, plots and visualizations of wind speed, energy generation, capacity factor, revenue potential and more, so that the user has the information about their wind farm they need to make informed decisions.
