MMI to Present at Hazards 26 (24th – 26th May, Edinburgh)

MMI will present a paper and poster at Hazards 26, which will take place this year between the 24th and 26th of May in Edinburgh.

David Sanderson (a Senior Principal based at MMI Warrington) will present his paper, ‘Environmental Loads in the North Sea – The Missing Piece in the MAH Jigsaw’, which examines work performed to predict the frequency of fixed jacket structure failures for a variety of structural types.  In doing so, the paper discusses to what extent Spouge’s guidance on QRA is conservative for North Sea jackets.  It goes on to present a method by which specific major structural elements may be identified as Safety Critical Elements (SCEs), as per the OSC regulations, and concludes by presenting a framework within which the SCEs can be managed.

The poster presentation, which was co-authored by Ian Herbert (a Principal based at MMI Warrington) and Graham Boaler (a Senior Engineer based at MMI Aberdeen), is based on their paper entitled ‘Guidance on Passive Fire Protection Materials for Process and Storage Plant and Equipment’.  The poster will highlight the lack of a single resource to provide details on the selection, specification, installation/application and inspection/maintenance of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) materials.  It will also touch upon a new guide that the Energy Institute is putting together, which will enable process safety and asset management practitioners to better understand the different uses of PFP materials and their management requirements.
