The first conference, which takes place on the 18th of May, is the 6th Safety Control Systems Conference. This event will focus on the technology and application of safety-related control and instrumentation systems in the chemicals, energy, mining and manufacturing industries. MMI’s Morgane Le Cossec, a Staff Engineer based at our Melbourne office, will present on the morning of the 18th. Her presentation, ‘Development of modernisation actions plan to manage and control the ageing of instrumented risk reduction measures in major hazard facilities,’ discusses Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and their importance, whilst providing examples where significant interventions have had to be made to rectify poorly performing or deteriorating SIFs/SIF components. On the 19th of May, the 2nd Safety in Design Conference will take place. MMI’s Garry Law, a Senior Engineer at our Melbourne office, will present his paper, ‘Making informed decisions in early project design – application of consequence modelling and inherently safer design.’ Garry’s presentation will discusses why major hazard identification and Inherent Safety in Design (ISD) opportunities are often missed in the early project design stages and how this affects safety and cost.
